SELF-CARE SUNDAY | TAKE CONTROL

Happy Sunday!

I had a really good conversation this week about how we perceive and look at situations as they come to us. Have you ever met someone that is the equivalent of a “Negative Nancy”? Or “Sadness” from “Inside Out”? This week - let’s focus on controlling our emotions and how we view situations. Are you a glass “half empty” or glass “half-full” kind of person? As we discussed this, I brought up a quote that was repeated during our morning announcements in middle and high school, “Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours”. This quote has stuck with me, 15 years later.

I’ve always been a morning person. Not because I get really good amounts of sleep or I am able to wake well-rested everyday, but instead I’ve decided to make the best of each day. On average, I get about 5 hours of sleep most nights. But, I also have to get up everyday and be mommy and get stuff done. I’ve made some adjustments over the past year to make my mornings more calming. I try and wake up an hour before everyone else in the house. I take my time getting dressed, listen to the Shine app and meditate and typically will watch YouTube before going downstairs, opening all the blinds to let in the morning light and drinking a glass of water. This is my routine. And while yes, I definitely recognize that this will not work for everyone, it is what works for me and allows me to start my day un-frazzled and ready for whatever. Taking time for myself is important - I don’t get alot of it.

We all have so much going on in our lives. It’s all about how you look at it. I want to encourage you and challenge you to find the good. Take control of your emotions and your outlook. It will not necessarily be easy at first, but trust me, it will make a world of difference.

xoxo,

Marie
