Mommy & Me

Our Baltimore Photoshoot!

This weekend we traveled to Baltimore for a quick getaway. I had the opportunity to have a great photoshoot and was able to have my daughter, Tai, join me! Recently, I took some pictures and was so frustrated with my husband because I felt he wasn’t listening to what I wanted the pictures to look like, but instead, he was trying to bring HIS vision to life and we just were not on the same page at all. This weekend felt completely different. One, having Tai there definitely made me smile and laugh more. I’ve always been self-conscious about smiling in photos - mainly because I felt that my face looked huge when I smiled. The beautiful thing about blogging and being more transparent with you guys is that I can already feel myself letting my guard down and being more confident in pictures. I tried different looks for the photoshoot, smiled more, and felt so much more confident. It was actually pretty amazing as I went back and looked at the pictures because I was so surprised how good they were coming out. After having Tai, I was so uncomfortable with my weightgain that I tried desperately not to be photographed and I really do not have many pictures with her when she was smaller. I’m grateful to be able to confidently take those pictures with her!

After the photoshoot, I told my husband that there were three things I learned from the shoot that day:

  1. Planning is key! I studied different poses and paid close attention to the backgrounds for the pictures to make sure it was cohesive with my pages. Also, pictures look way more high quality when my face is on fleek! I did heavier makeup than my daily look and I felt alot more confident in the pictures. I also packed several different looks to increase our productivity and efficiency during the shoot. Overall. Sis, it was a success!

  2. Communication is a must! On my IG, I have a WHOLE saved folder of different looks, inspiration, poses, backgrounds, etc. that I would like to recreate or that have inspired me. I shared a couple of these with my husband so that he had a better understanding of the look that I am going for. Sharing this with him was a huge relief becuse he got on the same page as me and I didn’t have to fire him. (JK, babe, you know I wasn’t going to fire you…nah but forreal)

  3. Tai is a STAR! Not only was baby girl killing her pictures, having her there with me made me smile so much more. I’m sure we won’t bring her for every shoot but she definitely reminded me not to be so serious. It’s just pictures, mommy, dang. LOL!

I’ve been doing more research to help optimize my planning so that I can continue to have successful shoots like this! I’m excited for November! Comment down below and let me know some of the ways that you get ready for a photoshoot or how you just loosen up! Also, check out some of my favorite looks from the shoot! Peep Tai getting her model on, too! #SWOON

Marie
